City walks with the Guild of Harderwijk City Guides and Rondeel
Every day at 2 p.m., the Guild of Harderwijk City Guides organizes a fascinating city walk led by an experienced guide. Would you like to join? Then register at the tourist office before 1 p.m. The guide will show you the city as you have never seen it before – full of history, stories, and surprising places.

Would you prefer to walk with your own group at a different time? That's possible too! The guild offers private walks on request at a time that suits you.

Rondeel offers city walks by appointment, especially for groups. Their guides will take you through the city and tailor the walk to your wishes and interests.

Both organizations also offer themed walks, for example, focusing on specific periods, buildings, or life in Harderwijk in earlier times.

A city full of stories and hidden places

When I visited Harderwijk and walked into the tourist office for some tips about Harderwijk, a friendly volunteer told me about the daily city walk organized by the Guild of Harderwijk City Guides. I didn't have any plans yet, so I thought: why not?

I'm so glad I went. After just a few minutes of walking, I was surprised by the charm of the city. Atmospheric squares, monumental buildings, and narrow alleys that I would otherwise have walked right past. Our guide talked about the history with such enthusiasm; Harderwijk has much more to offer than I thought.

Because he had keys to many old buildings, we were also able to go inside a number of monuments. That made the walk even more special. You literally step into history, in places you wouldn't normally visit.

What also struck me was how close the old center is to the water. While you're still in the middle of the historic city center, you can already see the glistening of the Wolderwijd. You can feel the fishing heritage everywhere—in the atmosphere, the buildings, and the stories.

Harderwijk really surprised me. I recommend everyone to explore the city with an experienced city guide; you see so much more!

Haven poort Harderwijk

Laughed a lot, learned a lot, and was completely surprised by the city.

For our company outing, we went to Harderwijk for the day. It was enjoyable to get away with the entire team. One of the activities was a city walk with a guide from Rondeel. At first, I thought: nice, a little walk and sightseeing. But it turned out to be so much more than that.

Our guide was enthusiastic, knew a lot, and told the stories of the city in a fun and accessible way. No dry facts, but surprising and funny details that stick with you. We walked through charming streets, across historic squares, and came to places you would normally never go—real hidden gems.

What really struck me during the walk was how strongly the city is still connected to its past as a fishing village. As we walked through the old streets, the guide pointed out details that I would otherwise have missed: facade stones, former smokehouses, old net lofts, and even names of alleys that refer to fishing. It literally brought history to life. You suddenly get a picture of what it was like here once—with fishing boats at the quay and activity surrounding the fish. It's very special to see that so tangibly in the middle of the city.

What made it especially enjoyable was that we were with our own group, so there was plenty of room for questions, jokes, and interaction. It didn't feel like a standard tour, and that's what made it so much fun.
