The tranquillity of bustling nature
The woods and heathland of Leuvenum
Take a stroll along the winding forest stream, admire the view from the high sand dunes and enjoy the fresh air on the heath. Surrounding Harderwijk lie the Leuvenum woods and sand drifts. Desert-like open plains alternate with dense forests of ancient trees. A wonderful area for a peaceful walk. And all the while, you can enjoy the vastness of the Veluwe.
Enjoy the countryside
Just outside Harderwijk lies the peaceful countryside of Hierden and the Gelderse Vallei. Here you can walk past meadows, across farmland and past thatched farmhouses. Put on your walking shoes and follow one of the ‘klompenpaden’ (clog paths), which lead you right through the countryside.
Along the way, you’ll pass old farmsteads, narrow paths and spots where time really does stand still. Do take a moment to walk past De Essenburg Castle. A lovely spot for a walk, right on the city’s doorstep.
