Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet

Crossing Spirits

David Bowie inspired saxophonist Yuri Honing from his youth. Honing started playing the saxophone thanks to David Sanborn's solo on Bowie's 'Young Americans'. The Yuri Honing Acoustic Quartet (YHAQ) has already recorded an album in Berlin (True, 2012) and covered three Bowie songs, including 'Bring Me The Disco King', in a "new post-jazz" style. In 2026, the YHAQ aims to artistically explore Bowie using the 'reworks' method. In this process, parts of Bowie's music, as well as his art and drive for innovation, are used as primary inspiration to rework Bowie's music for the quartet.

Bowie's individuality and creating for himself, without regard for the expectations of others, inspires them. As a quartet, they have used this mantra as their artistic motto for years. Furthermore, the public responds enthusiastically to their Bowie interpretations; the song 'After All' had been streamed eight million times by December 30, 2024.

In 2026, the YHAQ wants to use their love for Bowie—his drive for innovation, expression, theatricality, and ability to gather talent around him—as a starting point for a new album. This album will bring together jazz and Bowie's soul/pop with the unique sound of the quartet.
