The Dorpskerk is the church building of the Hervormde Gemeente Hierden and a municipal monument. The current building dates from 1851 and has a tower clock from the old town hall of Harderwijk. Every Sunday there are church services, and the congregation also organises guest services, clubs for children, Bible study groups and Alphacursussen.
From school to village church
The Dorpskerk originated from a school that was founded in 1659 and also served as an evangelical meeting hall. In 1741, the building became a church. After expansions in 1790 and 1827, it made way for the current building in 1851. The tower clock comes from the old town hall of Harderwijk.
An organ with a story
The organ was put into use in 1903. A marble plaque under the instrument commemorates the people who raised money to make the organ possible.
Two parish districts
The Hervormde Gemeente Hierden consists of Wijk Dorp, with the Dorpskerk, and Wijk Visnet, which meets in the church building Het Visnet in Harderwijk. Both belong to the Protestantse Kerk in Nederland. The congregation feels connected to the tradition of the Reformation.
More than just services
The congregation wants to be open and welcoming. In addition to regular church services, there are guest services, youth services, and church and school services. There is a wide range of clubs for children of all ages, as well as Bible and discussion groups and Alpha courses. Services can also be followed live.
